Best time to travel to Kenya

The best time to visit Kenya is during the dry season. Although the national parks can be visited year-round, the best time for wildlife viewing is generally between June and October. In July and September, the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebras takes place in the Maasai Mara.

But the rainy and off-seasons are also a good time to travel, because there are fewer visitors and you can admire the strikingly green vegetation.

Best time to go → Dry season: June to October

Positive:

July and September are the best months to observe the wildebeest migration. The animals are easier to spot because they tend to congregate around waterholes and rivers. There are fewer mosquitoes because it is raining little or not at all. The sky is clear and most days are sunny.

Negative:

It gets cold in the mornings and at night; it is recommended to bring warm clothing.

Good time to go → Rainy season: October to April

There are two rainy seasons. The short rainy season in November and December is still a good time to travel. The rain doesn't disrupt travel, and there are fewer people around. The main rainy season lasts from mid-March to mid-May and is a less popular time to visit.

Positive:

After the rains, the landscape is lush and green. Best time for birdwatching and seeing newborn animals.

Negative:

It is hot and humid at midday.

Generally, it's always advisable to dress in layers, whether in summer or winter. The African sun is very strong, so you should use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and wear a hat. It's also recommended to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
