You book your flights separately, but we've already worked out the sensible way to do it — here are our recommended routes, airlines and timings for this trip.
Our 3-week Cape Town, Kruger & Garden Route and South Africa: The Essentials in 2 Weeks Tour begin in Cape Town and end in Johannesburg, so we recommend an open-jaw (multi-city) booking: fly into Cape Town (CPT), fly home from Johannesburg (JNB).

London Heathrow gives you the widest choice, with direct overnight flights to both Cape Town and Johannesburg. Gatwick and regional airports are possible but usually add a connection — ask us if you'd prefer one.
Carriers we recommend
British Airways
Direct overnight flights from Heathrow to both Cape Town and Johannesburg, so there's no connection to worry about.
Virgin Atlantic
Direct from Heathrow to Johannesburg (and Cape Town in season), comfortable and with your bags checked through.
Qatar Airways or Emirates
A one-stop via Doha or Dubai, giving you more choice of times and often a better fare.

A direct overnight flight is the easiest option, at about 11–12 hours, and you'll arrive ready to begin.
For this tour we suggest flying into Cape Town and home from Johannesburg (open-jaw), so there's no need to backtrack.
Typical economy return fares are around £750–£1,300 per person.
We must stress that this is indicative only, with fares often rising closer to the departure date and over the December–January peak, always subject to availability and change.
On the way out: South Africa flights from Heathrow usually leave from Terminal 3 or 5, so do check your carrier. Overnight flights land mid-morning, leaving you fresh to start in Cape Town.
On arrival: Cape Town is a wonderfully relaxed place to land. We'd suggest an extra night to find your feet and perhaps see Table Mountain before the tour begins.
Coming back: You'll fly home from Johannesburg's O.R. Tambo, a large and busy airport, so do allow plenty of time.
Extend the trip: Why not add a few days at Victoria Falls or on the beach in Mozambique? Both are easily included as optional add-ons before you head home.
International flights are booked separately and booked directly with the airline. The recommendations on this page are guidance to help you choose; fares are indicative and subject to availability and change. We don't sell flights or guarantee fares.
