When to travel to Africa

Due to its vast size, sub-Saharan Africa features a variety of climate zones. As a result, the weather and seasons can vary depending on the destination you wish to visit.

The climate of South Africa varies greatly by region, making it an excellent destination year-round!

• During the months of winter (June to August), it can rain in the Western Cape (Cape Town, Garden Route).
• In contrast, the eastern part of the country (Kruger, KwaZulu-Natal) is dry.
• During summer (November to February), the Western Cape is generally dry, while the eastern part of the country experiences the rainy season.

Namibia can be visited year-round, but certain times are especially favorable for fully enjoying its landscapes and wildlife.

• The best time to visit is during the dry season (May to October).
• The climate is generally dry and pleasant during this period.
• The only exception is between December and February, when there may be some humid days and afternoon thunderstorms with rain.

Travel demand in Namibia is very high and accommodation is limited, which can lead to higher prices, especially in high season. That’s why we also offer departures in the low season (March–May and October–November), which are still excellent months to visit Namibia.

Botswana can be visited year-round, but certain times are especially ideal for enjoying its landscapes and wildlife.

• The best time to visit is from May to September, during the dry season and winter, when temperatures are more moderate.
• The Okavango is usually flooded from June to October.
• Wildlife viewing is possible all year round.

Because accommodation costs and availability are high, we also offer departures in the shoulder seasons (March–April and October–November), which are still excellent times to visit Botswana.

Tanzania can be visited year-round, but certain times are especially favorable for wildlife viewing and exploring the landscapes.

• The best time to visit Tanzania is during the dry season.
• The northern parks can be visited all year, but the ideal period for wildlife viewing is between June and October.
• The wildebeest migration in the Serengeti usually takes place in June and July.
• The wildebeest calving can be observed between late January and February.

Madagascar has a tropical climate with many microclimates, resulting in significant variations depending on the season and region.

• In the northern and southern regions, the climate is generally hot and dry.
• The highlands experience cooler temperatures.
• In the eastern region, rainforest dominates, with permanently humid weather.

Uganda can be visited year-round, but certain times are especially recommended for wildlife viewing and trekking.

• The best times to visit Uganda are during the dry seasons.
• The months of December to February and June to September are ideal for chimpanzee and gorilla treks.
• Safaris in the national parks are excellent at the end of the dry seasons, so in February and September/October.
